I thought I'd see if we can get a thread going on brass quintet, as it's a more common format than brass quintet ( particularly for me as a tuba player- it 's usually the tuba that gets omitted to form a quartet!)
Anyone here play in a brass quintet? We formed one a couple of years ago from the brass of my orchestra. We rehearse intermittently depending on other committments. Particular favourites are the Ewald quintets, Renaissance transcriptions and the Arnold quintet, of course.

Hey, Sue, I play in our family's brass quartet. We play alot of hymn arrangments and some classical quartets including Mozart's Eine Kleine Nactmusik.... Would really like to find a horn player so we cam play the Quintet in Eb that is published by VSM.

You have a family brass quartet? WOW! I am jealous; my family can barely operate a record player. It must be fun to play music with your family. Do you rehearse regularly, or just for specific occasions?

I have two adult students who have a family brass ensemble, consisting of two grandparents, parents ( my students on tuba and euphonium) and two sons. Not sure what the others play, but the grandmother is also an experienced arranger. They are the only students I have that get MORE practice in during the long summer holidays, when they all go away to the beach house, and get truckloads of playing in.

I've downloaded that Mozart arrangement, and it looks good. We haven't played it yet, as the orchestra has kept us busy, and it's been hard to find time to rehearse as all five of us live well-distributed over the area of a large metropolis.

I've seen quite a lot of music around for brass quartet, mostly arrangements, but most original compositions in the 2nd half of the 20C would be for quintet.

Yes, we do practice quite regularly. We play a lot for church and stuff.

My brother is first tpt. I'm 2nd, my 12 yo. bro. plays the T-bone and my 15 yo. bro. plays the euph. I generally lead them......(Not Easy....)
